We’re excited to announce that we’ll be reopening for members only on the 14th of September.
While you have been away we’ve made some pretty exciting changes to the wall – you can expect to come back to everything you loved about the climbing at 3WM and a lot more besides. We want to share a little of what we have been up to during the challenging times that Covid-19 has presented.
We can’t wait to have you back and climbing at our safe space with the community we’ve been missing, but we want to do this as safely as possible .
Covid 19 and our Rules
We are prepared and ready to open so don’t be afraid to come in!
Here are our key Do’s (and one Don’t ! ) to help you stay safe:-
DO Read our COVID-19 Statement HERE - this is the really important bit to keep our climbing community as safe as possible and to keep us operating.
DO come and climb at 3WM if you and those close to you have been free of COVID-19 symptoms for at least the last 14 days
DO come on time and ready to climb - This make things easier for everyone
DO use your own climbing kit and try not to share outside of your household
DO bring your own water bottles and keep bags to a minimum
DO check in AND check out of your climbing session - this helps us manage capacity
DO fill out a registration form before you visit, even if you have climbed with us before:
DO be kind to our staff, be patient with the changes and please be part of the community effort to look after each other.
DO Give people their space throughout the centre - information will be displayed to help you follow the current guidance
DO Sanitise your hands regularly - stations have been installed for you to use
Do Avoid touching your face
DO Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette
DO Wear face coverings whilst not climbing
DO be aware that together we can all minimise the risk, but we cannot eradicate it - so, as minimal as the risk might be, you have to take responsibility for your decision to come into the centre
DON’T be afraid to come back! We can’t wait to see you and to fill our safe space with the community we have been missing!
Climbing
We are managing our capacity carefully to help keep things safe and in line with government guidelines.
We’ve introduced 3hr time slots - either ropes, bouldering, or both!
It would be very helpful for us if you can stick to the decision you've made - since each climbing area will have its own capacity limit.
We’ll try our best to be flexible - but you will need to check with the team at reception! We won’t ask you to leave early without good reason!
If you're hoping to visit last minute, you can check our current capacity here
The New Training Room
We are super excited to open our new training room - frankly it’s pretty awesome and we will be shouting loud about it over the coming days - but hey better to come and have a look for yourself and book onto our available one hour slots for this fantastic new training facility. At the moment the training room will only be available for over 18's - this will be subject to change when our insurance policies are brought up to date with the new facility.
Membership
We have a number of flexible options, for the first two weeks of re-opening we are open to Members only.
Any Questions ?
We love to hear from you and we will put together a FAQs which we will be updating as we open, you can of course get in touch with us or chat with us on Facebook.

Do You Breathe Through Your Nose?
May 19, 2020 7:55:33 AM / by Charlotte Hatto posted in COVID-19
Do you breathe through your nose all the time or just some of the time or maybe rarely? Do you even know? Since breathing is an automatic process most of us don’t notice how we do it. Even when we are out of breath what we notice is that we are breathing hard more than how we are breathing. As a human being we are designed, if designed is the right word, to breathe through our nose; that’s what it is there for. It’s not just decoration. There are lots of things about our noses which give us good reasons to breathe through our noses in preference to breathing though our mouths.

So this is a futuristic blog, as I'm fairly confident the recipes that will be divulged provide more than one hours sustenance (well that was relevant when I STARTED writing this blog, I’m still a newbie at this business! Suffice to say you’d have to be taking the new exercise guidelines to the wire for these survival foods to let you down.) And how do I know this? Well I've been using these recipes to fuel up pre-fast every day (going into my 3rdweek now) and I'm still able to compose sentences and brave such experiences as shopping in Morrisons.

For those who don’t know Oliver - he is the main instigator behind Three Wise Monkeys Climbing up here in Fort William and I, amongst other things am married to him; this tends to lead to me hearing (often in long car journeys between naps) quite a few business and entrepreneurial audio books. Some I find interesting, others are drier…

Coffee Creativity Enhanced by Lockdown?

Ah ha, yes that sounds like a possibility? Alan in a flat on his own, no restriction on how much coffee he can make or drink (it's an essential, right? Hmmmm....) Well actually not really, although as I come up with “new” drinks every other day at 3WM it's just a question of now choosing which of the drinks pool to share with all of you! So here goes, fasten your coffee seat belts and prepare for the rush. I int
“Relax, take your time.” “Focus.” These words that we tell ourselves sound great on the surface and often reflect commendable goals but unfortunately they offer little in the way of information toward achieving them.

This kind of links to the previous non-dominant hand usage blog post - found here - but I’ve been wondering for a while, after going to a workshop run by Udo Neumann (one of the climbing world's most highly respected and sought after Biomechanics, Skill Acquisition, & Motor Control Experts - if you’ve not heard of him you should have a look at his stuff here) a few years ago. Udo Neumann talked quite a lot about practising movements that challenge your brain, like for example using your left hand on the right side of your body and vice versa or coordinating the movement of your right arm and left leg or vice versa.
Performance Anxiety and Body Image - this is not another one of ‘those’ posts

Whilst I think it would be awesome if everyone did have a positive body image and was happy with their performances in the relevant areas I know this is a very personal thing so can’t be forced - I do think being positive and encouraging towards everyone irrespective of their outward appearance is the right, and nice, thing to do but I do want to talk a bit about the effect that this might have on people as well...I appreciate that this is likely to be quite controversial but it is something that I feel is worth mentioning - maybe because it’s something that is close to my heart but with that in mind I will do my best to keep perspective.
After a long week of work there is nothing better than a takeaway that you know isn’t healthy but just tastes so good! I know that I'm missing being able to pick up a pizza or a curry after work on a Sunday night.
